15th anniversary
CELEBRATION BEGINS WITH mASS

St. Gabriel Communications, Ltd., better known as Siouxland Catholic Radio 88.1 FM, went on the air at 10 a.m., February 5, 2008.

On Wednesday, February 8, at 12 p.m., at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, Iowa, Siouxland Catholic Radio will celebrate the station’s 15th anniversary during the noon Mass. The mass intention is for the station’s anniversary and all of the station’s supporters.

In her upcoming book, "Broadcasting A Dream, 15 Years of KFHC Catholic Radio," author Joanne Fox points out that the official on-air date "was preceded by decades of groundwork" done by Father Harold Cooper, a priest of the Diocese of Sioux City.

"Father Cooper was a warrior to strengthen the Catholic faith through many endeavors including the Alpha Center (now Her Health Women’s Center), The Shrine of Trinity Heights/Queen of Peace, the Soup Kitchen, and Siouxland Catholic Radio," said Fox, who also hosts Faith in Action on KFHC. "He spearheaded the laity of the Siouxland Catholic Forum to bring professional speakers to Sioux City and also served as president of the Siouxland Chapter of Morality in Media."

Father Cooper died five months before the station went on the air, but his goal of bringing residents in Northwest Iowa, Northeast Nebraska, and Southeast South Dakota closer to Christ continues.

Tim Swedean, an underwriter and Advent Pledge Drive guest, attested to the fact. Tim learned about Siouxland Catholic Radio through his involvement in Trinity Heights. “People constantly talked about EWTN. I saw Siouxland Catholic Radio was connected to EWTN. I started listening out of curiosity and became hooked over time. I like knowing and reinforcing God is a generous and forgiving God. If I show heartfelt forgiveness through the sacrament of confession, our loving Father will forgive me.”

With respect to the noon Mass attendees’ busy schedules, lunch will not be served. Staff and volunteers will thank the benefactors and all Mass attendees for their prayerful support after Mass.
